listen. literary fiction is well and good but genre fiction, particularly speculative stories like we have the possibility to tell with science fiction, offers the opportunity for an entirely different kind of commentary that can have just as great if not a greater impact.

optimistic sci-fi is both directly and indirectly responsible for many of the advances we benefit from today, and stories offering important and impactful representation or examination of issues can be told in any medium.
me, refusing to leave the ceiling:
it's the themes that are important, and sci-fi in particular that shies away from the unfortunate grimdark trend is an excellent medium with which to convey stories about themes like optimism, progress, inclusitivity, and a better future that people will hopefully be inspired to strive for
Honestly the mere fact that some people refer to Daddy Long Legs as “harvestmen” is creepier than 90% of all deliberately created horror but like the worst part is that the alternative is calling them Daddy Long Legs
